Designing Your Pool at Home

Taking part in the planning and designing of your pool is an essential part of making it a genuine part of your home. You must communicate well with your contractor how often and during what season(s) it is expected to be used, and who will use it. Other considerations include how big you want the pool to be, where you reside, and of course your budget. These are just some aspects that must factor in the design of your pool. The materials to be used in building it will depend highly on these factors.

There are two key parts you need to take note of when designing your home pool: 1) pool interior designs; and 2) pool deck designs.
Pool Interior
Here are some of the best materials and/or design languages that can ideally make up the surface the interior of your pool:

1.    Aggregate Finish
If you want a modern yet natural aesthetic, you must opt for this pool interior design. With aggregate finish, stone is mixed with an optimized plaster. Then, the outer layer is removed to unveil the stone’s components. The best thing about this is that the aggregate is far more durable than the plaster.

2.    Exposed Aggregate Finish
Exposed aggregate finish is achieved by blending pebbles in the concrete mixture, enabling you to create distinctive patterns with the help of a chemical stain. This leads to a contemporary yet dramatic appearance.

3.    Marble and Granite Finish
Marble and granite are your go-to if you are looking for a high-end aesthetic. They can be a little bit relatively expensive but have high algae resistance and stain resistance properties. You might be shedding a lot of money on this finish but it is considered as one of the most durable one available today.

4.    Pebbled Finish

A pebbled pool interior delivers a classy, natural appeal. You can choose from a variety of motifs that complement your home interior and exterior. The best features of a pebbled pool interior include stain resistance and chemical degradation resistance.

Pool Exterior

The exterior design of your pool is just as important as its interior design. Here are some popular design elements for your pool deck that can perfectly complement your pool interior, backyard, and/or garden altogether:

1.    Natural Stone
Even though it may come off as a little bit more pricey than other pool deck design languages, natural stone is still one of the best and most versatile materials to beautify your pool exterior with. Natural stone can come in different shapes and sizes, depending on what you are trying to achieve.

2.    Tiles
Tiles are commonly used in warmer areas. If you are worried about their poor slip resistance properties, a special finish can address the concern. If you are going for a traditional theme, then you must opt for this pool deck material.

3.    Wood
Wood is perfect for your pool exterior if you are trying to achieve a cooler feel. It is especially ideal if you live in a low-temperature area. However, if you are opting for this design element, make sure that you are prepared for the high-maintenance requirement.
